As more and more people give Caffeine a whirl, the increased prominence of results from the social media sphere appears to be a widespread phenomenon.

Interesting piece questioning the value of increased prominence of social media content within Google’s new, Caffeine-enhanced search engine results pages. The author suggests that maybe there isn’t extra value to be had from doing this – because relevancy is the most important thing in a search set.

Google have just announced the release of OpenSocial – an attempt to try and build commonality of API between social networks. It allows developers to access three sets of core information: profile data, friend information, and activities happening within a network…and it looks like they’ve persuaded some pretty high profile networks to participate. Facebook is notable by its absence, however…and this move should provide developers the means to build applications once for multiple platforms…

Google have announced the acquisition of Endoxon, a European mapping service – their blog entry says:

We’re also excited about having a dedicated team in Europe that can bring a distinctively European focus to our Maps products in those markets.

From what I gather, Endoxon (now called Mappuls) offer more detailed map data, geoanalysis and geodata – and I wonder if this move is because Google pay per hit every time a user accesses a Google Map…perhaps we should expect more acquisition in this vein?
